Reopening Massachusetts

Reopening Massachusetts

These past few months have certainly been difficult and there are new challenges to be faced as we all begin to welcome back our employees and customers. To prepare City Wide of Boston’s physical office, we used our own Facility Response Plan Checklist, which helped us to welcome back our team with confidence that we had all the bases covered. Some of the things we did include setting up additional hand and device sanitizing stations, posting hygiene posters throughout the office, adding incremental cleaning and disinfecting protocols and promoting social distancing by relocating some desks and placing reminders near people’s workstations. Our team had fun choosing their own social distancing signs! Check out some of their creative options below and please reach out to us at ci**************@***il.com for copies of these signs!

Our goal is to be a resource. The City Wide of Boston Task Force meets daily and continually reviews the key information sources: CDC, Mass.gov, OSHA and EPA for updates. Our Account Manager team is given all consolidated information with a summary, key links and documents so they are prepared to support our clients as Massachusetts works through the phases of reopening.

We have helped manage and implement:

  • Updated cleaning and disinfecting plans
  • Day Porter services for frequently touched surfaces
  • PPE supplies
  • Transportation cleaning and disinfecting plans & schedules
  • Plexiglass barriers/sneeze guards
  • Hygiene signage
  • Communication plans

See what our current clients have said about us!

“I was on the phone with a client going over our Facility Response Plan guidance and she was blown away by how much information she was unaware of. With the information that I have been given from the City Wide Task Force, I was able to help guide her on things she can do in the common areas of their buildings, as well as guidance on how to handle the kitchen and cafeteria. The most important part was the ability to provide her with the posters to hang though out the building. Even more important was providing her with the control plan as was unaware this needed to be done. She has made it clear that without City Wide of Boston she would be lost.”

My contact was getting pressure from her boss to come up with a plan and information. I sent an email with the links to the CDC and OSHA as well as assurance that we can help them ensure the facility is safe and ready to open. When she sent the information to her boss, they were put at ease about reopening their facility.”

We managed an electrostatic disinfectant service where my contact had called at 9:00am and we had a crew there by 10:30am. She was very appreciative not only for our response time but our knowledge of what to do in this situation.”

Many companies are overwhelmed with the wealth of information and guidelines that are constantly updated by the CDC and Mass.gov.  City Wide of Boston has done the research and we are here to provide a resource of knowledge as you work to open your facility. Below are links that we feel provide an overview of the phases of re-opening and how to open your building in compliance with the safety standards.

The team at City Wide of Boston is ready to support you, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at gocitywideboston.com.

Happy International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day

March 8th, 2020 is the 45th  International Women’s Day! The United Nations initiated International Women’s Day on March 8, 1975 to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women.

Do you have a female role model to look up to? Do you surround yourself with women in your life who will motivate you and push you? The mission of this year’s International Women’s Day is to champion women of all backgrounds who dare to innovate, lead, and uplift others towards a more equal and inclusive workplace. #IWD2020 #EachforEqual

Here at City Wide of Boston, we are fortunate to be surrounded by many inspiring women. Here is a highlight of some of our favorites.

Victoria Waterman, CEO of Girls Inc. Worcester is  a local advocate for young women. Victoria states in her TEDTalk that the ladder of success begins at the age of 10. She encourages us to help girls gain and build confidence to succeed in a competitive world in their early stages of life. Learn how you can  get involved and be a role model for a young woman.

Tara Westover, author of Educated, A Memoir  was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of 2019 and was a guest speaker at the 21st Annual Horizon’s for Homeless Children Women’s Breakfast.  As the Sommers Family is a sponsor of this breakfast, our City Wide of Boston guests had the opportunity to hear her inspirational journey and reflect on hardships that others might be dealing with and learn to empathize with others before passing judgement.

Michelle Obama is an author, speaker and advocate.  Our team was excited to get our hands on her book “Becoming”  and we even had a mini book club! Michelle states, “Becoming is never giving up on the idea that there’s more growing to be done,” which perfectly aligns with the initiatives of International Women’s Day. In her book she encourages women to share their stories. Share yours below using #iambecoming.

Karen Sommers City Wide of Boston founder and owner (who we call K-boss) is another inspiration. She not only is a role model for us but also has a strong presence in her hometown of Southborough. Southborough Living  magazine recognized her as a Remarkable Woman of SouthboroughClick here to see the full article!

As Michelle Obama says” There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.” How will you help lift up other women in your life? We would love to hear from you in the comments below! Going Green at CWB!

Going Green at CWB!

In April, Earth Day gets a lot of attention as it should, but there are other emerging national days designated to bring awareness to other things that we can do to save our planet. In 2017, the fourth Friday in February was designated National Skip the Straw Day.

The National Park Service estimates that Americans use 500 million plastic drinking straws daily. Plastic straws do not biodegrade but break down into tiny microscopic pieces that are then consumed by wildlife and that create the suspected carcinogen, styrene monomer.

What to do if you love the Earth and a straw? Good news, there are many reusable, eco friendly options.

In addition to skipping the plastic straws, our team at City Wide of Boston is continuing to make strides to decrease our footprint in our own office. We recently installed an Ion “bottleless” water cooler from our friends at Stonybrook Water Company. Our team enjoys an endless supply of pure drinking water without the hassle or environmental harm of bottled water.

“We continue to think of small changes that we can make in the office to reduce waste. It is important to us to be mindful about the environment. We were very excited to learn that we had a reasonable option that could provide not only an environmentally conscious product but also a healthier product for our employees!” – Cara Angeloni (Office Manager)

We can all help by learning more about steps to take to help make a cleaner environment and what choices exist to use eco-friendly products for our homes and offices.

“There are many different options we have that are better for the environment. We work along with City Wide of Boston to provide the best solutions for their clients.  People take a lot of different angles to look at “green” depending on what they’re trying to save, the most common  is the slogan “reduce, reuse & recycle” . Systems like Enmotion control usage by dispensing one towel at a time and reducing the amount of towels used. How the paper is made is another way in which something can be more environmentally friendly. There are many manufacturers that offer recycled content and post consumer recycled content, such as towels. Manufacturers also use independent third parties like eco logo, green seal and many others. Solaris paper has a different path to be green, they use rapidly renewable resources for paper. They have all plantation grown fiber for their products.  There is such a variety of products that we can offer to fit the needs of any client. ”  – Scott Pena    Arrow Paper Corporation

Together we can all make a difference.  Please join the effort #skipthestrawday Friday Febrary 28, 2020.

Go Month!

Go Month!

January is the perfect time of year to reset and refresh, which is why January is labeled “GO month” (get organized)! It is easy to get carried away with trying new things. It is not about simply picking a new system, systems themselves are not a guarantee.  It is sticking to a system and setting reasonable goals that guarantee results.

We are all surrounded by a wide variety of options to attempt to do this, and it is easy to want to try them all.

“Right now I am obsessed with the quick videos that pop up on my social media feeds about a unique space saving techniques or easy closet organization hacks. I even get excited thinking about diving into Marie Kondo’s six basic rules of tidying! ” – Karen Sommers (Owner – City Wide of Boston)

If you really want to get organized and set any kind of sustainable goals in January what should you do now?

The City Wide of Boston team had the benefit of learning from author and speaker, Jen Shirkani, who helped our team understand how we can use our emotional intelligence to improve the odds of sticking to our goals. She outlines three simple things to keep in mind when setting goals that will lead to success.
